Traditionally in India anyone who used to do B.Pharma or D.Pharma would end up as a Medical representative or a Medicine retailer (Chemist as they still call in India). These two used to be the only careers. But in last 25 years, the economy was opened for international players. As a result it formed a huge private sector and globalized supply chains, the careers in Pharma have increased by leaps and bounds, now there are options like Medical Transcriptionists, Quality Assurance Managers, Analytical Chemists, Sales and Marketing Managers, Data Managers, Drug Regulatory Managers, Scientists, Healthcare Professionals, pharma-co vigilance professionals, Pharmaceutical chemist, Pharmacognosy, clinical research and Pharmacology professionals. As the industry got more sophisticated and commercial, the patenting of salts and molecules has reached to cut throat competition, even in tough times for global economy these days due to Covid-19, the pharma sector is the one which is and will gain the maximum, the scope for patent writers and pharma-covigilance companies like Paraxell which are running massive KPOs in India for the purpose. Many like Pharmacognosy Consulting at California have come up for specific consulting to pharma majors on naturally found drugs and their uses. India, with its age old medicine system will go on to become global hub for Pharmacognosy in coming time. In India too, the allied industry to pharma like consulting firms, KPOs, contract patent writers, research firms etc. Have come up in last few years which have opened the doors for well rounded pharma grads. Large number of pharma professionals have found contract manufacturing as a great option in entrepreneurship and now that government is also pushing for generic medicines, the entrepreneurship opportunities will increase further. Many graduates are also into marketing, with large number of generic medicine producers, the marketers have launched their own brands and making great careers not only as entrepreneurs but also creating jobs in the same sector. Since successive governments have relaxed the norms and gave impetus to industry as a whole, the only problem which this whole industry is facing is the right manpower! Yes, the required skills are either not taught or maybe the training modules are obsolete. Very few university/colleges have been able to meet the requirement of this industry, these are Jamia Hamdard Punjab University, NIPER, ICT Mumbai, BITS Pilani and LPU.

Because you are not specific about the colleges, Hence the eligibility criteria of M.Des of NIFT and NID are given below for an idea. Eligibility criteria of NIFT : Undergraduate Degree in any discipline from any Institute / University recognised by law in India. Age criteria : No age limit
Selection criteria : The selection process comprises a written examination comprising of a Creative Ability Test CAT and General Ability Test (GAT) followed by Group Discussion and Personal Interview (GD/PI) for shortlisted candidates of the written examination. Website : https://www.nift.ac.in/
Eligibility criteria of NID : Bachelor degree of minimum 4-year duration in any specialisation, after 12th standard or equivalent to 12th standard from any university or institute recognised by law in India. Condition: Applicant must have passed the Bachelor degree examinations at the time of document verification. Or
Bachelor degree of minimum 3-year duration in any specialisation, after 12th standard or equivalent to 12th standard. Condition: Applicants must have passed the Bachelor degree examinations before June. Age criteria : For Indian Nationals in General Category & General EWS category: Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 1990 are eligible to apply for admission.
