Candidates can check the domicile rules for NEET UG below :

  • All India Quota (AIQ): Generally, candidates from all states/UTs are eligible for AIQ seats. Candidates from Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh are eligible for AIQ seats only if they submit a self-declaration.

  • 15% All India Quota (AIQ) Seats

    • Scheduled Caste (SC): 15% of AIQ seats

    • Economically Weaker Sections (EWS): 10% of AIQ seats

    • Persons with Disabilities (PwD): 5% horizontal reservation within each category (UR, SC, ST, OBC, EWS).

  • 85% State Quota Seats:

Both are acceptable, but MS + 3-year MCh is more traditional and widely acceptable with the strong surgical background. The 5-year direct MCh (after MBBS) is a new one and is offered in fewer colleges. It is time-efficient but may lack general surgery exposure. Further, the decision is based on career goals and performance in exams.

If you go for MBBS degree from recognized university in Nepal, it is definitely valid in India. After graduating with an MBBS degree from Nepal you must pass the National Exit test, also known as NEXT to gain a license to practice further, in India. This test is recognized and administered by the National Medical Commission (NMC) which allows students with an abroad medical degree to practice in India.

Students of Ladakh and J&K have quota in all the State colleges and univerities. Also if you are from Ladakh or J&K and your family income is below INR 8 Lacs and you scored more than 70% in you class 12th exam then you can also apply in PMSSS (Prime Ministers Special Scholarship Scheme). With this, you can get admission in other state collges with a scholarship.
