The minimum educational qualification required to pursue this course is 10+2 Science stream schooling with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics subjects. Students should have passed 12th Board examination from a recognised Board. Minimum marks criteria may exist and is generally around 50-60% marks in Board Examination.
B.Sc. Degree holders (subjects like Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics) may also pursue this course. Minimum marks criteria may exist and is generally between 50-60% marks in final year of Degree programme.

Candidate must have passed 3 years engineering Diploma or passed B.Sc and class 12th with Mathematics and obtained not less than 45% marks in aggregate (40% in for SC/ST).

Admission is through counselling based on the rank obtained in Uttar Pradesh State Entrance Examination Lateral Entry (UPTU SEE).

One can also pursue M.Tech in Oceanography or Marine Biology. The minimum qualification is M.Sc and sometime a valid GATE score is essential for admission to this program.

Educational
The minimum educational requirement for an entry-level job as a Marine biologist is Bachelor of Science degree with a focus on Marine biology. However, most preferred is a Masters degree in Marine biology. For research and university teaching positions, PhD in Marine biology is required.
Marine biology areas of study include systematics, ecology, anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, pathology, parasitology, reproduction and development, mariculture, ocean farming, pollution biology, energy resources and conservation.
