M.Sc. in Marine Science - Batch of 2025

Reality of M.Sc. in Marine Sciences from Goa University.
Placements: The course is limited to 20 students at once. There are no placements that the department provides. Instead, they won't allow me to opt for internships during the course. Institutes like NIO are good exposure but they are also disappointed with the level of knowledge students are passing out from GU. Attendance is another hot topic.
Infrastructure: Laboratories and classrooms are fairly equipped with instruments like LAF and AAS. Classroom is facilitated with projector and air-conditioning. Wi-Fi is available but not working properly. Computer labs have a lot of issues that don't get resolved immediately. Hostel facilities for graduate and post-graduate students are the same and allow two students in a single room. Mess food is really the worst, and there are a lot of complaints that are delayed several times.
Faculty: Many teachers are biased and support favoritism. If you don't stay in their good books, you might not be treated well. Teaching quality of few teachers is fair, but others are really bad at teaching. The curriculum is relevant but there are a lot of things that are necessary to be learned from a research point of view. But they don't really teach them. It definitely does not polish the student, least that teachers find the positives within the student and guide them to use it efficiently. The semester exams are moderately difficult.
Other: I had chosen this course for the sole reason of placement. But I was misguided. There are no best things about career. The students in marine science program couldn't enjoy the events or take part in them without bunking the lectures. Scholarships are available but they take a lot of time to sanction it (literally it took one whole year to credit the amount. The lectures are so hectic and go up to 05:30 PM. There is no hope for the improvements.

Very satisfying service and management.
Placements: 55% of the students placed in our department. The highest package was 8 LPA, the lowest package was 3 LPA, and the average package was 6 LPA. Some students got internships in a few companies that reached our college.
Infrastructure: College campus is surrounded by plants, trees, and hills. The classrooms and labs are modified and well-managed. Wi-Fi facilities are only for teachers and college staff. A vast collection of books is available in the library. The quality of food in the mess and canteen is good.
Faculty: Teachers provided for our course are not very qualified and knowledgeable. They do not take much interest in teaching or helping the students. The teaching quality is average. Our course is curriculum-relevant, and it makes the students industry-ready.

The college needs a lot of work in terms of infrastructure and faculty.
Placements: The student percentage is 48%. The college does not offer any packages in my course. As far as I know, there is no recruitment in my college. I don't think anyone has got internships through college. I have no idea about the roles offered in the college.
Infrastructure: The courses are good, but the classroom needs a lot of work, and the fans don't work in some classrooms. The library is really good, and there are many different genres of books from each course given and others for knowledge. The college is building the hostel, it might take a few years to complete it.
Faculty: Teachers are very helpful, knowledgeable, and kind. Each of the teachers helps students in every way possible from study to other problems. Their teaching is fabulous. I don't think it makes students for industry. The last semester was good, with 71%.
Other: This course is to know better about mental health, wellness, oneself, and others. The teachers help in gaining knowledge. They should provide study material, and improvement in the lab.

The hostel is good and calm. There is equipment for playing purposes.
Placements: From the third semester, students are eligible for getting placements. Companies like Cairn India, SLB, Exonn, Halliburton, etc., come every year for placements. The highest package is around 24 LPA and the average is 13 LPA. The percentage of students getting placed is very less. After getting a degree anyone can take competitive exams like GATE for PSUs and GSI and if anybody is interested they can go for PhDs.
Infrastructure: There is also a hostel in our college. The fee for the hostel is Rs. 17,000 per year which does include food and bills. The food is average which is served in the canteen. You need to contact the college office to register a hostel room and location is Panjim.
Faculty: I chose a program within the Department of Applied Geology, i.e. the M.Sc. tech in applied Geophysics course which I had chose because of its uniqueness and for its job aspects and research aspect which is quite good in the field of Oil and gas Industries. The curriculum prepared us well with various mentorship from different universities and which make us learn well about day to day application in the Geophysics field.

Overall, I can say it is a good college.
Placements: There are hardly any placements. I can say it is equal to a no. For arts and science, there are none but for commerce maybe one or two BPO jobs are offered. So if students are joining this college and want placement, then I would suggest skipping it.
Infrastructure: The hostel is still under construction so I cannot comment on that. The infrastructure for my course which is Psychology (Honours) is overall a good experience. The library has numerous books. It has a separate psychology lab and good Wi-Fi connectivity.
Faculty: Faculty members are stars of this college and because of this, I can suggest this college to students. Especially I can guarantee about the psychology department because they are professional and skilled. We had experienced staff members with thorough knowledge. We just need more practical learnings from the college.
Other: There are cultural days and scholarship help. The college also supports a team to participate in an outside fest. If students want to balance some fun and some learning then opt for this. But overall as a college, it is still developing.

College is good for BBA students but not for BCA.
Placements: There are no placements from the college, and it is hard to find any placement opportunities. You have to find internships on your own, as they also don't provide them. It is a bad college in terms of placement and internship. They don't even mention placements on their website.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure is okay, and the campus is also good with proper sanitation. However, the college doesn't have a good infrastructure for BCA students.
Faculty: The curriculum is good, but teachers don't understand students, and some teachers are also demotivating. The fees are also too high. It is very expensive. Teachers are also not good.
Other: You should consider this college for the BBA course but not for BCA.
