NIELIT Guwahati offers merit-based admissions to majority of the courses on offer. Few courses requires candidates to appear for an entrance test, and the cutoff score is decided by the institute based on the difficulty level of the paper. Candidates must check the selection criteria to find out if the admission process is entrance or merit based.

NIELIT Shimla offers Certificate courses in various specialisations. The admission to these courses is subject to the fulfilment of the eligibility criteria specified by the institute. The eligibility requirement for the Certificate courses is very simple. To be eligible to pursue a Certificate course at NIELIT Shimla, candidates must have completed Class 12 from a recognised board. No, there is no ragging culture inside the campus of NIELIT Kolkata. Ragging in any form or type is banned in the NIELIT campus and special guidelines are made to avoid ragging. Students are penalised for not following the guidelines.
Most of the areas of the academic blocks, hostels, bus stands, and mess are under 24/7 camera surveillance. The institute has taken several measures to ensure safe campus for the students. Violations of the strict measures may result in warnings and serious actions against the accused.
