NIELIT Shimla Highlights 2025
NIELIT Shimla admission 2021 for PGDCA, DCA and other long-term programmes is open. The National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT), Shimla was established on April 10, 1995. It is run under the administrative control of the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MoE&IT), Government of India. The campus is located in the heart of the Shimla city in the lower Jakhoo area.
NIELIT Shimla was inaugurated by the Ex-Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh to encourage youth to develop an interest towards IT sector in Himachal Pradesh. The Institute offers various long and short term courses in the field of electrical and information technology in both formal and non-formal learning. NIELIT Shimla also has a vast variety of short term courses on latest IT technologies for students pursuing their undergraduate/postgraduate engineering and technical education.

NIELIT Shimla, is providing training to candidates belonging to SC, ST, OBC & Minorities communities of Himachal Pradesh, for different courses under the “Training and Proficiency in Computer Applications” scheme since 2007. Till date, about 4410 candidates had obtained training in different courses. It is the earnest endeavour of NIELIT to provide placements to successful candidates of these courses. After the completion of training/gaining proficiency in computer application the NIELIT ensures placement of at least 50% of the total passed candidates in private concern or other organization. NIELIT Shimla is providing the placement to candidates of PGDCA and DCADTP batches since 2007.

NIELIT Shimla Centre is located in the heart of the city in lower Jakhoo area. The Centre was inaugurated on April 10, 1995 by the then Chief Minister Sh. Virbhadra Singh with the objective of sensitizing youth of the state towards IT and spread IT culture in the State of Himachal Pradesh. The Centre has been functioning as a customer centred IT organisation with complete focus on customer needs and expectations so as to fulfill them with a targeted strategy and commitment.
The Centre has good infrastructure in terms of six spacious classrooms out of which three fitted with multimedia projectors, two fully networked dedicated computer labs for the students for carrying out practical assignments, Internet connectivity through high-speed broadband and library facility with more than 500 books to support the approved curriculum being taught to students of formal and professional courses. Qualified, experienced and dedicated faculty members are with us. Our students gain technical and soft skills as per the needs of the industry and society.

NIELIT Shimla offers O Level (equivalent to foundational level) and A Level (equivalent to advance diploma) courses. The institute offers long-term and short-term courses in full-time and part-time mode. The long term courses are further divided into formal and informal categories.
The duration of NIELIT Shimla ‘O’ level (IT) course is 520 learning hours and the minimum period to cover contents is one year for candidates undergoing ‘O’ Level after Class 12. The minimum duration to cover the course is six month for candidates undergoing ‘O’ Level after graduation.
‘O’ Level (IT) course includes project as an important component. The project is carried out by the student under guidance and support of faculty and management of institute. Besides, the students have to devote 60% of the total time allotted to each module of the course for the practical sessions. Practical assignments are worked out for each theory module.
Aspirants who have completed Class 12 can apply for National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology Shimla O Level course. Candidates who have passed second year of a Government recognised Polytechnic engineering Diploma course after class 10, followed by an accredited ‘O’ Level course can also apply.
