NIELIT Shimla Centre is located in the heart of the city in lower Jakhoo area. The Centre was inaugurated on April 10, 1995 by the then Chief Minister Sh. Virbhadra Singh with the objective of sensitizing youth of the state towards IT and spread IT culture in the State of Himachal Pradesh. The Centre has been functioning as a customer centred IT organisation with complete focus on customer needs and expectations so as to fulfill them with a targeted strategy and commitment. 

The Centre has good infrastructure in terms of six spacious classrooms out of which three fitted with multimedia projectors, two fully networked dedicated computer labs for the students for carrying out practical assignments, Internet connectivity through high-speed broadband and library facility with more than 500 books to support the approved curriculum being taught to students of formal and professional courses. Qualified, experienced and dedicated faculty members are with us. Our students gain technical and soft skills as per the needs of the industry and society.

The basket of activities of NIELIT is further augmented by the wide range of projects that it undertakes. NIELIT has demonstrated its capability and capacity to undertake R&D projects, consultancy services, turnkey projects in office automation, software development, website development etc. NIELIT is also the nodal implementing agency on behalf of MeitY for Data Digitization of the population of 15 assigned States and 2 Union Territories for the creation of National Population Register (NPR) project of Registrar General of India (RGI).

Yes, National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology Shimla offers one-year PGDCA course in affiliation with MCRP. The programme is open to candidates who have complete their graduation. The course content includes TALLY, Operating Systems such as MS-DOS Windows and Linux, etc. At the end of the second semester, the students are required to submit a project report.

Yes, NIELIT Shimla offers a part-time PG Diploma in Computer Application (PGDCA) among its Non-Formal Courses. The duration of the PG-level course is one year, which is further divided into two semesters. Further, the institute is also authorised to conduct the PGDCA course of MCRP, Bhopal. It is offered as a Formal Course. Candidates who have completed their Graduation can apply for these courses. 

Yes, National Institute of Electronics & Information Technology (NIELIT), Shimla offers a Diploma in Computer Applications & Desktop Publishing at the UG level. It is one of the Non-Formal Courses offered at the institute. It is a part-time course that lasts one year. Candidates who have completed Class 12 can apply for admission to this course. However, when a candidate applies determines the cycle in which they will appear for the NIELIT exam. The exam is conducted in two cycle, i.e. January and July. The last date to apply for the January session typically falls in October of the previous year. The last date to apply for the July session is expected to fall in March/April.

‘O’ Level (IT) course includes project as an important component. The project is carried out by the student under guidance and support of faculty and management of institute. Besides, the students have to devote 60% of the total time allotted to each module of the course for the practical sessions. Practical assignments are worked out for each theory module.
