Yes, some NITs have their cutoff ranks above 55000 for some of courses. My rank was also more than 55k. You can compare your rank with the previous year's category wise cutoff's ranks at:

Check for the HOMESTATE NIT first. Also, this year's 1 round counselling ranks at:

Dear,
Though your query is not appearing very clear to me - I'm posting my perception in favour of taking admission in IITs/ NITs. You see the fundamental success of an Institution is how many innovative thinkers it has produced - who have contributed a lot with other innovative technological backup - Nationally and or globally. To take admission in any NIT, you must score good marks in JEE Mains Paper 1. Without clearing JEE Mains, you cannot take admission in any NIT and 12th marks do not affect your admission in NIT.

You can get VNIT but not NIT-Rourkela as getting there is quite difficult, according to last year admission score.

As per NIT Silchar placement cell officials, the average annual package offered to students is Rs. 4 LPA and the highest annual package is Rs. 9.5 LPA during the campus placement.
Coming to teaching methodology there is a pre-decided course structure assigned to each of the departments, it depends upon the teacher who takes up that particular subject, some teachers are good at explaining the concepts while some moderate in such cases we always have video tutorials to our rescue which helps us to pass the exams.

It totally depend on JOSAA counselling. You may get NIT-Allahabad, but IIIT-Hyderabad is best. IIIT is among all the IIITs, so you cannot get it.
