Depends on what NIT you have a chance of getting in. If there's any possibility that you'd be getting a branch of your choice in NITT, NITK, NITW, NITC or VNIT, then you can go ahead with that. Otherwise, I'd suggest you to go for Long term coaching and try the best you can to get into one of the older IITs. All the best :)

Hello Kartikeya,
To get the top NITs , your rank should be atleast 4000-6000 if you belong to the general category. For general category, CRL (common rank list) will be considered.
if you belong to the other categories, then your category rank should be atleast below 2000.
for all these parameters, your score is JEE main exam should be atleast more than 300.

National institute of technology, kurukshetra is considered as one of the most prestigious technical Institute in our country. I will give some points regarding the college here:
Departments:
CS/IT department : This department bags the highest placement packages every year. The coding culture is very good. The drawback of this department is the faculty ratio. Less no. of professors are experienced and most of them are on contract basis.CCN facility is very good and u can visit there any time.
Mechanical /Production :Mechanical department is very good. Faculty is very experienced and some of the professors are excellent. SAE club in our co

Obviously, look out for NIT as there is no stand for state level colleges in front of the national level college.

Hello Aakanksha,
To get admission in top universities/colleges in India other than IITs and NITs, you need to crack the respective entrance exams like BITSAT, VITEEE, SRM JEE, MOUET, AEEE, etc.
These are some of the national level exams for which students aspire. If you have 90% or above in board exams, then some universities like LPU, Amity University, etc. admit students without entrance exams.
Some universities like SASTRA University takes admission based on board exam marks and also, with JEE Mains marks but it doesn't come under the counselling of JEE.

NIT counselling is an online process.
The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) will be the responsible authority for the counselling and seat allotment of JEE Main 2017. JEE Main 2017 counselling and seat allotment will be held in seven rounds. I guess, yes. Anyone under 10000 rank is eligible for the admission and since you are an SC, you have more options and chances available. Just apply once you feel like and you are ready to go. BTW, congrats 2843 is a great score.
