Ohio University admission is selective with an acceptance rate of 89% and an early acceptance rate of 97.5% as per the claim by an unofficial source. Besides, the university shortlist candidates based on their GPA and other selection criteria. An overall GPA of 3.0 or better on high school coursework is required along with other requirements. The prerequisite GPA is based upon the programme prerequisite courses. Ohio University use ATCAS's cumulative GPA calculations based on each institution attended.

If all academic requirements are met, the GRE is not required for Ohio University admission. If all academic requirements are not met, candidates must submit official GRE scores. GRE scores are valid for five years as of the test date, at the time of application. The preferred GRE score is 300 with a writing score of 4.0. GRE requirement varies from course to course. Applicants with a bachelor's degree from a US college or university that is not regionally accredited may be considered with supplemental application materials and an official GRE or GMAT score.

In the world, Ohio State University ranking in the QS World University Rankings is 140 in 2023, whereas, in 2022, the university ranked at #120 position. In the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings, Ohio State ranks at #112 position in 2023. In 2022, the university ranked at #85 position in THE rankings. Although, in both the rankings, Ohio State University’s position has declined, the university still ranks in the Top 150 universities in the world.
