On-campus living presents vibrant and accessible campus life along with a greater immersion into university culture at the same time allowing easier participation in events and activities.
Off-campus living is usually much more independent than having possibly lower costs, but could also be farther removed from the campus and culture, depending on how far away you are from the campus.
If the benefits of convenience, social involvement, and university integration are going to weigh most in your decision, then on-campus living may indeed suit you best. On the other hand, if privacy, freedom, and potentially lower costs are more important,

If you have global affiliations and opportunities in the USA, then UCLA is the one for you, albeit for a very hefty cost.
Go for IIM Ranchi to gain a very cost-effective Indian or greater Asian job market education while you want faster ROI.
