Yes you need to appear for NET exam which is also known as UGC NET or CBSE NET is a test to determine eligibility for college and university level lecturership and for the award of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) for Indian nationals.

If you did M.Sc from recognized university, then you are eligible for NET test. It doesn't matter, you did M.Sc from private or regular. You are eligible for NET test.

If you did not completed your post-graduation and are in the last year, then you can apply for the UGC NET exam in result awaited category. The minimum eligibility for the UGC NET exam is Master's degree from the recognized university with 55% marks.
