In order to gain admission, candidates are required to give an entrance examination conducted by Thiruvalluvar University in their respective departments.

Thiruvalluvar University admission to PG courses is purely on merit basis. As for the selection, it is based on the reservation policy prescribed by the Government of Tamil Nadu. The mode of application is offline. Also admission to PhD programme is conducted through entrance test (CET).
In case of integrated Master's degree programme of five years, no student shall be eligible for admission unless he/she has successfully passed the examination conducted by a Board / University at the plus two level of schooling (either through formal schooling for 12 years or through open school system)

Thiruvalluvar University provides two procedure to be for admission into PhD programme. Firstly, admission to PhD programme is conducted through Common Entrance Test (CET) which is conducted by the University for admission in the month of November and June (twice a year). Also the PhD admission is also merit basis. Secondly, those candidates will be exempted from the entrance exam who have qualify UGC/CSIR/DBT/ICMR (JRF) examination NET/SET/SLET/GATE and teacher fellowship holders.

Thiruvalluvar University is an affiliating University and a member of the Association of Indian Universities (A.I.U). The distance education, also known as the TIDE, Thiruvalluvar University of Distance Education offers course with a reasonable fee for the candidates. Also students undergoing regular courses in colleges will be permitted to join another UG/PG course through distance education. The examination is an annual pattern (non-semester) conducted twice a year with a hassel free admission process. Yes, TIDE is worth doing for candidates who wants to pursue a degree with low minimum fee.

Thiruvalluvar University admission to various PG and PhD programme is purely merit basis. As for the selection it is based on the reservation policy prescribed by the Government of Tamil Nadu. Candidates who have passed UG examination other than Thiruvalluvar University, must apply for the eligibility certificate . A non-refundable fee of INR 236 (INR 118 for SC/ST) must be paid for the admission application form. Candidates are required to send the application form with required documents through mail directly to the respective Institution postal address and wait for the seat confirmation.
