Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Kakinada is one of the oldest engineering colleges in Andhra Pradesh and has been accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA). The college boasts good infrastructure and provides students with various facilities, including a library, hostel, and sports facilities.

The campus itself is known for its beautiful surroundings, spanning 110 acres, and well-maintained facilities, creating a pleasant atmosphere for students to learn and grow. Additionally, the university offers scholarships to deserving students, recognizing their academic achievements and providing support for their educational journey. Moreover, the college and hostel fees are relatively affordable, making on-campus accommodation a practical and budget-friendly option.

Here are some helpful tips for students starting their first year:

1. Explore the campus: Take the time to explore and familiarize yourself with the campus. Locate important buildings, facilities, and resources like the library, labs, and classrooms.

2. Manage your expectations with professors: It's important to note that professors may not spoon-feed you. Take responsibility for your own learning and be proactive in seeking clarification or assistance when needed. Develop good study habits and make use of the available resources.

3. Utilize the library: The university library offers a wealth of resources, both online and in print. Make it a habit to visit the library and explore the materials related to your coursework. The library can be a valuable asset for studying.

4. Consider revaluation: If you believe there is an error in the evaluation of your exam papers, don't hesitate to apply for revaluation. It provides an opportunity for a second look at your answers and may result in a fairer assessment of your performance.

5. Don't stress over your CGPA: While it's important to aim for a good CGPA, don't overly stress about it, just try to maintain it around 8. Focus on understanding the concepts, gaining practical knowledge, and developing relevant skills. 

6. Build relationships with seniors: They can provide guidance, share their experiences, and offer advice on academics, extracurricular activities, and campus life. Building relationships with seniors can help ease your transition into college life.

The CGPA provided for a student by JNTUK is the Cumulative grade point for a student’s overall performance throughout all the semesters in a program. The CGPA is calculated by taking into account all the courses undergone by a student in all the semesters of a programme, i.e. CGPA = Σ (Ci X Si) / ΣCi Where Si is the SGPA of the i^th semester and Ci is the total number of credits in that semester.

As per the B.Tech (R16) academic regulations of JNTUK, Kakinada, the following is 
the procedure for the computation of Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA). 

SGPA (Si) = Σ (Ci X Gi) / Σ Ci

Where Ci is the number of credits of the ith course and Gi is the grade point 
scored by the student in the ith course.

The CGPA is calculated by taking into account all the courses undergone by
a student in all the semesters of a programme, i.e.

CGPA = Σ (Ci X Si) / Σ Ci

Where Si is the SGPA of the ith semester and Ci is the total number of 
credits in that semester.

The equivalent percentage can be calculated as per the below formula for the 
B.Tech students who obtains their degrees under R16 regulations ie. 2016-17 
admitted batch onwards (2017-18 batch onwards for lateral entry scheme). 

Equivalent Percentage = (CGPA – 0.75) X 10

The placement facilities at JNTUK are satisfactory, with opportunities provided for students to secure job placements in various companies. The university has a dedicated placement cell that actively coordinates with companies and organizes recruitment drives on campus.

Almost sixty percent of the pass-outs are placed in the jobs, and an average package of four to five lakhs is offered. The internships are provided in the third year of the course.TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Tech Mahindra, IBM, Accenture, Cognizant, Capgemini are some of the tech companies that visit University for recruitment. Individual student performance, skills, and preparation also play a significant role in securing job offers.

The faculties for B.Tech programs are not particularly great. Additionally, there are concerns regarding the evaluation of exam papers, as it often feels like the grading process is not carried out meticulously, leading to potential inconsistencies and unfairness in the assessment of students' performance. Furthermore, one area that needs improvement is the syllabus, which is somewhat outdated. The content and curriculum of some courses do not keep pace with the rapidly evolving industry standards and technological advancements. Moreover, the introduction of new courses does not always seem to provide much value to students in terms of practical knowledge or relevance to their career prospects.
