University of Canterbury

The University of Canterbury maintains a notable alumni list, which includes renowned authors, artists, academics and politicians, etc. One of the noble laureates of the University of Canterbury was Ernest Rutherford, a physicist who discovered the atomic structure and is known as the Father of Nuclear Physics. The famous mathematician Roy Kerr who discovered the Kerr geometry is amongst the alumni of the University of Canterbury. Other noted alumni of the university include Henry Field (educational psychologist), Craig Nevill-Manning (the Engineering Director of Google), William Young (Supreme Court Judge in New Zealand), Kevin Tod Smith (actor) among the others. Canterbury's initiative named UC Legends celebrates its alumni with pride and maintains a link between the alumni and the existing students of the university.

The University of Canterbury's campus which was initially based in central Christchurch initially was moved to the green suburb of Ilam in 1975. The Ilam campus is situated approximately 5 km from central Christchurch city and is surrounded by expansive green spaces. The Avon River flowing adjacent to the University Drive adds to the physical beauty of the campus. Spread across 190 acres, the university campus includes lecture theatres, laboratories, computer suites, studios and four libraries with 24x7 accessibility. There are 10 residence halls on the campus that accommodate a large number of students. In addition to the above, there are about 15 bars, eateries and cafes within the campus.

The University of Canterbury is a top-ranking university in New Zealand and offers a wide portfolio of more than 120 qualifications in over 150 different subject areas through its five colleges, namely; College of Arts, College of Engineering, College of Science, College of Education, Health & Human Development, and College of Business & Law. The University of Canterbury offers a generous number of scholarships, nearly 500 to all their international students, on all levels of study and academic college of choice. Each of the University of Canterbury scholarships for international students ahve different eligibility criteria (such subject/course, level, citizenship, age, gender, school, region, etc.) and may require different supporting documentation. Also, students are required to apply separately for scholarships at UC and they can refer to steps listed below for the same:

• Read the scholarship regulations prior to completing an application to check whether you meet the eligibility criteria;
• Answer all required sections and questions when completing your on-line scholarship application form;
• Upload all required documents in support of your application;
• Upload copies of your academic records for courses completed at all other tertiary institutions;
• Register with myUC prior to applying for a scholarship; and
• Date and sign the privacy provisions.
