Yes, a Diploma student can give the joint entrance exam test for studying engineering. But since you have done Diploma you can choose a path according to what you have done, or else do engineering as per your choice.

Hi Maha Laxmi,
Which college in Dhanbad for Civil?
Aerospace is a much better course than civil engineering.
But if you got alloted to IIT Dhanbad - then go for IIT (Civil).
The scope of IIT passout is much higher than IIST.

Hi Upendra, ISRO yearly recruits fresh graduates with B.E. / B.Tech. Through its central recruitment system called ICRB (ISRO Central Recruitment Board) in various stream namely Mechanical, Civil, Electronics and Computer Science. Candidates with aggregate of more than 65% marks are eligible for the job. Applicants are required to take a written exam consisting of 80 multiple choice questions related to your stream. On the basis of this exam, the selected applicants are then called for an interview which decides the final selection of candidates for the post of Scientist/ Engineer SC. You can seek admission into IIST in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala which is one of the finest space Science institute in India and after graduating from there you will be probably get a job in ISRO or maybe some other space research organisation. To get into IIST, you must be able to qualify JEE ADVANCE, nonetheless admission criteria is based upon JEE Mains. As far as I know, you must be able to secure a rank under 5000 in Mains to get admitted there. Then an admission form is needed to be filled after the ADVANCED examination which you will find in IIST website. You'll be given two choices of branch for your B.Tech study namely avionics and aerospace engineering and even a number of M. S courses regarding astrophysics, etc. Are offered over there.

IIST - the fact that most of its students are eventually absorbed in ISRO. So, whats most important is to choose an institute which provides you a wide range of career options. It immensely increases your chances to succeed as an young undergrad. To be very frank, you won't be having much career choices if you choose to join IIST. IIT Dhanbad is doing great among the new ones. Please do not get demotivated by its location. People often comment without even knowing the inside story. I can fairly assure you that you would be having a whole lot of exciting career opportunities here in IIT Dhanbad. Rest is your decision.
