IIT Kharagpur - Indian Institute of Technology Answered Questions

After the application process is over; students have to go through various selection rounds for final admission. The institute considers the merit of the candidates for MBA, LLM and PhD admission. For BTech, MSc, BSc and M.Tech courses, JEE Advanced, IIT JAM and GATE scores are considered for the selection of candidates. Additionally, admission to PhD and MS by Research is based on UGC NET/ CSIR NET and other national-level exam scores. After the selection rounds, JoSAA, COAP and CCMN Counselling are conducted for seat allotment to BTech, M.Tech and MSc courses. A merit list is released by the institute for announcing the names of the candidates shortlisted for certificate, PhD and MS by Research courses followed by a counselling round. Candidates need to pay the admission fee to confirm their admission.

The application process for a few popular courses is completely online. Admission to the course is based on JEE Main and JEE Advanced scores. Students seeking admission must qualify both these entrance exams for admission to IIT Kharagpur. The institute has given weightage to all the sections in CAT cut-off for the final shortlisting of the students. For General category candidates, the minimum CAT overall percentile is 90. This is relaxed for reserved category students and stands at 80 percentile for NC-OBC category students and 75 for SC, ST and PwD students. However, for final admisison, there is only an overall cutoff. For General category candidates, minimum CAT percentile is 90. This will be relaxed for category students as per the Government of India norms.

The selection of candidates for admission to the MBA programme at VGSoM (IIT Kharagpur) is a two-step procedure. Applicants, who are shortlisted based on the eligibility criteria are called for an online Personal Interview (PI). Final admission to the MBA programme is then offered on the basis of a cumulative score of the application rating (AR), performance score in CAT 2024, and the candidate's performance in the online PI process.
