The admission in NID for B.Des courses are based on NID Entrance exam (DAT Prelims) generally conducted in the month of December every year. The online application process for entrance exam will be begin in the first week of October 2020. NID conducts DAT Prelims and DAT Main exams for B.Des courses. DAT Main is conducted at NID center. The eligibility criteria for B.Des courses is given below.
Educational qualification : Applications for academic year 2020-21 are open to applicants who have passed or will appear for higher secondary (10+2) qualifying examinations in the academic year 2019-20 in any stream (Science, Arts, Commerce, Humanities, etc.) from any recognised board of education such as CBSE, IB, ICSE or their equivalent.
Age Limit:
1. For Indian Nationals in General Category and General EWS Category: Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 2000 are eligible to apply for admission.
2. For Indian Nationals in Reserved Category (Other Backward Class-Non Creamy Layer (OBC-NCL),
3. Scheduled Caste (SC) & Scheduled Tribe (ST)): Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 1997 are eligible to apply for admission.
4. For Indian Nationals in PwD Reserved Category: Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 1995 are eligible to apply for admission.
5. For Foreign Nationals in Overseas (Supernumerary) Category: Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 2000 are eligible to apply for admission.

The eligibility criteria of NIFT and NID for B.Des courses is 10+2 in any stream. Hence mathematics is not necessary for B.Des courses of NIFT and NID.

The that Prelims paper comprises of a mix of objective and subjective questions. Based on the scores obtained in the that Prelims, candidates will be shortlisted for the that Mains. The that Mains for M.Des. Programme consists of two parts:
1. Studio Test: This may consist of tests in different formats. Total marks of the test will be 100 and the duration will be of three hours. The that Mains will be conducted in English ONLY. 2. Interviews: The interviews will be conducted separately for each discipline, immediately after the Studio Test, and at the same centre as the Studio Test. The weightage for various tests is given below.

2. That Mains - 70%

It will depend on the schools' requirements where you intend to go to. You may need to do architecture first to do a Masters. It won't help that much to do industrial design, but if you want to architectural projects then it could be useful.
