The National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) B.Des selection process includes an entrance exam followed by a merit-based admission process. The NIFT Admissions Test is an important step for candidates seeking admission to the Bachelor of Design (B.Des.) program. There is no fixed cut-off rank for the minimum NIFT exam score required for NIFT admission. The required rank depends on a variety of factors, including course, category, and the candidate's preferred campus. In general, the lower the rank, the greater the likelihood of admission to the desired programme and campus. However, a score of at least 100 out of 150 is often considered a safe bet to gain admission to NIFT's top-tier institutions. To be eligible for admission to the B.Des program, candidates must have passed a 10+2 or equivalent examination from a recognised institution and have taken physics and mathematics as subjects. The maximum age for admission must be less than 24 years as of August 1 of the year of admission. The NIFT cutoff for the B.Des programme will vary each year depending on the number of applicants, the difficulty of the exam, and the availability of seats. Cutoffs are announced separately for each course (B.Des, B.F.Tech, M.Des, M.F.Tech, MFM) and indicate the minimum rank or score required for admission. The expected cut-off for B.Des in Fashion Design is 100 points and 800 points for Textile Design.

A minimum of 50% is required to pass their qualifying exam. Cutoff scores for B.Des programmes vary throughout institutions and universities. In comparison to a smaller college, the cutoff will be substantially higher at a famous design institute like NIFT. The B.Des programme you're interested in may have different cutoff points. For instance, at the same university, Fashion Design can have a higher cutoff than Textile Design. While some B.Des programmes use national exams such as UCEED or CEED, others have their own entry exams. The cutoff marks can be greatly impacted by the exam's difficulty level and scoring methodology. Numerous organisations hold seats aside for various groups, including PwD, SC, ST, and OBC. The cutoff marks for these categories may be lower than those for the general category.

Even with a little lower class 12th %, a strong score can greatly increase your prospects. To be competitive, aim for a score in the top 20–30 percentile. The cutoff scores for the various B.Des programmes that NIFT Gandhinagar offers are different.Certain programmes may have higher competition than others, such as Fashion Design.Apart from entrance exam and class 12 marks, NIFT Gandhinagar also considers factors like work experience, portfolio presentation and personal interview performance during the selection process. 70% in 12th is a good base but to get a seat at NIFT Gandhinagar you have to clear the entrance exam and other selection criteria.

In comparison with NIFT Gandhinagar, the National Institute of Fashion Technology is thought to be better for B.Des students. Assuring a standard in design education, both colleges share the same NIFT curriculum. However, the faculty expertise or teaching approaches for specific specialisations may differ slightly. The instructors are both skilled and experienced. Depending on the college, some professors may be experts in particular fields. With more guest lectures and internship opportunities available, Chennai has a modest advantage because it is close to important textile and apparel export firms. Both have strong placement histories, with graduates landing positions in respectable businesses. However, Chennai's close proximity to industry may provide it a small benefit. Due to the greater cost of living in the city, Chennai may provide slightly higher starting earnings on average, though actual pay will depend on individual success and the employer of choice.
