Founder of Neurobytes,

There are two fields in the game industry:
1) Designing: which include animations.
2) Development: Which is pure coding and testing part.
As you have mentioned development, I think you have to visit MAYA academy near to your location which offers various course in game development part time and full time and it is also a good academy as per my knowledge.
For designing, Arena animation is best in the industry.
All the best.

Yes its a good career . Its a domain which involves the programming and coding skill in combination with design and 3D CG asset creation knowledge . More over maximum of the companies prefer to hire a person who has a lot of exposure to games , so basically you must have played a lot of games and must have passion for it.
I;m not sure what is your academic background , but what is needed is programming and coding knowledge + design & 3D software knowledge , preferably in softwares like Maya/ Max / z-bruch / mu box etc.
