Educational Counselor,

Most students who are seeking admission in a prominent university in the US, need to take TOEFL or IELTS. However, this requirement can waived if a student produces significant proof about her English proficiency. Usually, students from International Baccalaureate (IB DP) and A levels in India are exempt from this requirement.

TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) and IELTS (International English Language Testing System) are two of the most widely-accepted tests to certify your English proficiency.
TOEFL follow mostly North American English accents and IELTS follow a range of international English accents. The length of TOEFL is 4 hours and that of TOEFL is 2 hrs and 45 minutes.
Fees:
IELTS : In India, the fee is Rs.11300
TOEFL : more than 200$ and not more than 400$
If you don't want to spend a lot of money and if you are not a native speaker then go for IELTS It is less complicated.
Best of luck!

When picking a TOEFL test centre and date, you should think about comfort and timing. Also a bit of planning helps. Choose a centre that is near your home. So you don’t get late or stressed on exam day. Long travel can make you tired even before the test starts. Check some reviews if possible. Some centres are good, some not really. Computers, seating, noise level all these things matter a lot.

My sister is in the midst of a Full Stack Software Engineering Postgraduate programme. He shared your confusion about this matter. Before committing to a school of software engineering, however, he wanted to conduct some research. This led him to enroll in NIIT's PGP software engineering course, which is offered online. To my mind, he made the right decision. Core Java, Git, agile methodology, and many other foundational skills are taught in depth as part of the full-time curriculum.
