While IT and CS degrees can lead to similar jobs, the differences between the two are quite pronounced. IT professionals should enjoy installing computer systems, using software and maintaining networks and databases, while computer scientists should enjoy mathematics and software design.

They are not same but people don't differentiate much as these degree holders generally end up competing for the same jobs. Curriculum wise Computer science is more theoretical and less structured and so allows students the flexibility in coding and developing algorithms. It concentrates more on fundamentals. Software engineering is more applied and concentrates on processes of software development from idea to final implementation.

With an 80 percentile in JEE Mains and belonging to the OBC category, you can get into several reputable CSE colleges. Some good alternatives are NITs such as NIT Warangal, Surathkal, and Trichy, where cutoffs for OBC applicants typically fall around this percentile. IIITs such as IIIT Hyderabad, IIIT Delhi, and IIIT Allahabad also take JEE Mains scores seriously. DTU, NSIT, and Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology are all possible options. To make educated admissions decisions, investigate each institution's cutoff trends, eligibility criteria, and counselling procedures.
