Let's start with the full form of SSC. SSC CGL stands for Staff Selection Commission Common Graduation Level exam.
It is a government organization which is responsible to recruit the candidates for the vacancies in govt. departments and ministries.
SSC CGL is the examination for the graduate candidates for the post of group B and Group C level posts.

This year tier-I of SSC CGL is being conducted in August month for the following posts in various department:

Eligibility criteria: there are different eligibility for the various posts in SSC CGL exam. you should check the official notification for the complete detail before filling the application form.
Educational qualification: The educational qualification varies for the different posts for SSC CGL exam and given below:
a. Assistant Audit Officer:
Bachelors Degree in any subject from a recognized University
Desirable Qualification: CA/CS/MBA/Cost & Management Accountant/ Masters in Commerce/ Masters in Business Studies.
b. Junior Statistical Officer:
Bachelors Degree in any subject from a recognized University or Institute with at least 60% Marks in Mathematics at 12th standard level OR
Bachelors Degree in any subject with Statistics as one of the subjects at degree level.
c. All Other posts:
Bachelors Degree from any recognized University or Institute
Note: Candidates appearing in Final year of graduation can apply for SSC CGL 2017 however they must have the essential qualification on or before 1st August 2017.
Age Limit: Candidates of 18 to 32 years old are eligible for the SSC CGL exam. here are some age relaxation for the reserved categories according to govt. norms.
Exam Pattern: SSC CGL exam is being conducted in 4 tiers as follows:
Tier-I is online mode exam which consists 100 questions of four subjects.
Tier-II is the objective type multiple choice question form two compulsory subjects while two optional subjects are for some posts
Tier-III exam is a descriptive exam in Hindi or English to check the writing skills of the candidates
Tier-IV exam is conducted for selected posts. it is Computer proficiency and typing speed test

Commerce is the activity of buying and selling of goods and services, especially on a large scale. The system includes legal, economic, political, social, cultural and technological systems that are in operation in any country or internationally. Thus, commerce is a system or an environment that affects the business prospects of economies. It can also be defined as a component of business which includes all activities, functions involved in transferring goods from producers to consumers.
B.Com (Hons) is a three-year undergraduate degree program to provide the student with a wide range of skills in the area of commerce, accounting and management. It also helps in preparing the students for business enterprises in Account and Finance roles. Some universities allow students to specialise in a particular subject in a final year. Some universities offer B.Com degree course.
Majority of syllabus of B.Com (P) and B.Com (Hons) is same. B.Com (P) gives an overview of various subject where same course in honors has more depth and content. In B.Com (P) you cannot specialise but in honors degree student can specialise. B.Com(Hons) is now a de-facto a standard accepted degree for jobs. Cut-off for B.Com (Hons) is higher in comparison to B Com (Pass).

1) No matter how much you think you know about a subject, there is always something more. The only way through is to practice each and every possible combination of questions. Never believe that you have learned everything. I learned this the hard way.
2) You need to be up to date with all the laws and acts. Small amendments may also cause big problems. For instance, companies act, 2013. It brought a huge change in a lot of areas including accounting, costing, CAR, CARR, etc. So make sure you know your way around each act. One tip a friend of mine gave is to find all the loopholes in all the Acts and laws. This will ensure your complete knowledge in the area.
3) find some good tuition if you haven't already. From my experience, the chapter is not at all sufficient. Try and find someone who has knowledge of the subject and get tutored. Although this is optional, you never know what new idea you may get.
4) Try and arrange group studies. It always helps. New ideas and different concepts can be learned easily.
5) Actual work experience helps a lot. You've mentioned that you've worked before. I'm sure that has helped. If possible, try to get a job in cost related areas, maybe an articleship in a cost accounting firm. It will help you immensely.
6) Many may not know this, but your prospectus has a page where it tells you what is expected in each type of question. You can go through this and maybe it'll help you frame your answers in a better way.
