There are a large number of colleges in US and an equally large number of opinions as to which institute is the best.
Again, the fees/ scholarships/ opportunities to earn are quite dynamic in nature.
In view of this, I would advise you to approach an agency dealing with sending students to US to take care of different nuances.

Fundamentally, GATE syllabus is equivalent to BE. In addition, one is expected to choose GATE paper of the branch in which BE is done. So the requirement for further study material is rather limited.

You have asked a very pertinent query but the answer is not very forthcoming. However, knowing the Indian situation, I can say that not many students get placed in a core job. Private industry is almost absent but from the government side, DRDO/ISRO/Armed Forces are a few of the employers. From DPSU side, HAL/BEML/BEL perhaps do give employment but numbers are very limited. All in all, not a very good situation.

IIT Mumbai is an old hand in this branch and keeps itself updated on a regular basis. It's at the top of ranking for this branch. On the other hand, IIST is a new entrant but is supported by ISRO. This college too has good faculty. However, I would prefer IIT to IIST.

These days, only government colleges have reasonable fees. Hence, many students prefer admission there. As a result, those students whose rank is not good fail to get admission. I am attaching a link that will predict colleges for you- https://www.shiksha.com/b-tech/resources/wbjee-college-predictor

A rank of about 2000 in JEE Advanced would fetch you a seat. But this year, being a girl student, additional seats have been authorised and hence for girl students, the cutoff could be further lowered.
Best wishes.

Yes, IIST promoted by ISRO is one of the best institutes of learning and if you are getting admission here, then I would advise you to take it without any doubts.

Yes, in almost all colleges certain seats are kept reserved for lateral admission into 2nd year of engineering. But the student needs to clear other eligibility conditions if any. And if course the marks in Diploma will decide your probability of getting admission.
