Go for nano degree course offered by "Udacity".
If you are bone-breaking interested in the mobile app designing then you can take up the free introductory course provided by UDACITY in association with Google online.
If you like to pursue it then go for the nano degree course in the app development by Udacity

Probably computer science.
While it might vary a little from department to department, learning CS will give you a good foundation for a career in animation (which is pretty much your only option if you want to make a career in animation).
I would bet that you will be able to take many animation courses for CS electives, thus getting the best of both worlds (getting a good foundation through CS, following your interests and expanding your potential are the ways to get employed in animation).

A designer will often see a project from start to finish, from designing the initial concept all the way through to production and user testing.
A team of designers might work on a project, but on smaller projects, one lead designer is often enough.
