RBU was established on 1962. At present, it has three faculties, namely, Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Fine Arts and Faculty of Visual Arts. Apart from the regular UG, PG and Doctoral programs Rabindra Bharati University (RBU) also offers MA & MSW programs in Distance Education mode. RBU is an affiliating university. It offers UG, PG and Doctoral courses in its Main campus and in Jorasanko & Salt Lake campuses also.
BA & BFA Courses require a pass in 10+2 in the relevant group while for B.Li.Sc & B.Ed programs, a Bachelors degree is mandatory.
Admission is offered on the basis of marks secured by a candidate in the qualifying examination.
RBU also offers Diploma in Tagore Literature and D. Litt in under the faculties of Arts, Visual Arts and Fine Arts
The university offers BA (Hons.), BFA, B.Li.Sc & B.Ed programs in various disciplines under the faculties of Arts, Fine Arts and Visual Arts. The basic eligibility for BA & BFA is a pass in 10+2 with relevant subjects. For B.Li.Sc and B.Ed courses, a Graduation degree is a must.
Admission is completely based on the marks in the qualifying examination. RBU releases the course-wise provisional merit lists for the shortlisted candidates.
Merit List Preparation: For B.A (Hons.) in Rabindra Sangeet, Instrumental Music, Vocal Music, Dance and Drama subjects, the merit list will be prepared on the basis of score in Admission test (out of 80) and marks in 10+2 (out of 20). The admission test will consist of 50 marks for Practical and 30 for Theory.

Candidates applying under foreign or NRI categories need to appear in the written test followed by viva-voce conducted by the respective department of RBU.
The candidates with a gap in studies in two successive sessions will not be considered eligible for admission process.
No candidate will be allowed to pursue two-degree courses at the same time in the university or any other university simultaneously. Only Diploma or Certificate courses can be considered as exceptions.
Those candidates who are employed in (Govt./ Govt. Aided) are required to submit a No Objection Certificate or an approval letter from the employer to be considered eligible for admission

An MFA is a two- or three-year programme in filmmaking, creative writing, visual arts, photography, graphic design, dance, theater, and other performing arts. It's an applied arts programme for students who want to become professional working artists. The vast majority of MFA courses are performance-oriented, rather than equal parts liberal and performing arts. The Master of Fine Arts is not to be confused with the Master of Arts. An MFA is an academic programme concentrated on one particular area of study. MA programs are a bit more liberal arts-based by nature, and they include a scholarly study of the subject. In the United States, an MFA is recognised as a terminal degree, meaning it's the highest degree available in a field of study. It's also the minimum qualification in order to become a full-time professor at a college or university in MFA-related disciplines. PG Level: To pursue an Art programme at degree or PG Diploma level candidates should complete their graduation in Arts with the minimum percentage stipulated by a particular university/ college in which they are seeking admission. Syllabus of an Arts programme depend on the type of course (Fine/ Visual/ Performing) as well as the specialisation (drawing, sculpture, painting, film-making, painting, music, drama, singing, dance, etc.) that a candidate is pursuing. All MFA courses are of two years duration and institute takes 5 students for each MFA course. The eligibility to apply for any MFA course is BFA pass from any recognized university. Candidates seeking admission to BFA MFA Diploma and Hobby courses must have applied for concerned entrance exams. The institute follows the below steps for admission for BFA courses:

The application form has to be filled within the allotted dates only. A student's ID and password will be generated which should be secured for future use. Issuance of Hall Ticket on the website through candidate's login. The date of exam will be announced on the site. Students will attend the test for 360 minutes. Merit based scholarships and freeships are awarded to talented students. Scholarships are awarded to 6% students and freeships to 10% of students in each class. The rate of scholarship is INR 25 per month for first year BFA students and INR 35 for all other classes.
