Both are good courses and have wide scope. However, mass communication is a wide subject that not only covers the topic of filmmaking but even more than that. Filmmaking has just a limited reach to direction, production, etc. Mass communication covers each and every aspect. If you only want to get a proficiency in film making and looking forward to make it your career than go for it. But if you want to cover all other major fields like journalism, photography, public relations, etc. then go for mass communication.

Eligibility of the Master of Fine Arts [MFA]:
The candidate must have passed 10+2 from a recognised school or board in India. The candidate must have passed Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) with 50% marks in aggregate from a recognised university. Candidates who have passed BA (Hons.) in Fine Arts with one year Pre-MFA with minimum 50% marks in aggregate from a recognised university are eligible to apply. Yes, you are eligible for both the courses. You only need to be a graduate in any stream from a recognised university in order to be eligible to pursue any of these courses.

Unfortunately, you are not eligible for MFA in Painting as it is only meant for students who are from BFA background or an equivalent programme of 4 years duration.
