Undergraduate Program in Automobile Design – 3 years duration
XII'th Arts or Science or Commerce, or
3 Year full-time Diploma in engineering or
1 Year Foundation Course in Design from a reputed institution
Bachelor of Design from National Institute of Design (NID), Ahmadabad
The BACHELOR OF DESIGN programme commences with a two semester rigorous Foundation Programme followed by 3 years of specialized studies in any of the disciplines offered in B.DES.
The one year Foundation Programme is geared towards developing values, perspectives, sensorial skills and aesthetic sensitivity essential for a designer in making. It introduces students to the fundamentals of design and helps develop ways of perception, understanding of multidisciplinary nature of design and relationship of design with human senses and emotions, culture, environment and ecology.
Basic design 'studio' courses are augmented by introductory studies in Science and Liberal Arts. This allows the students to develop a worldview, understanding of Indian milieu and the socio cultural context for Design to operate. The varied inputs over two semesters provide the necessary direction, stimuli, facilities and experience to foster creativity and thereby help each individual to discover their own identity and potential. The Foundation Programme is the basis on which the remaining design curriculum is built.
Total seats: 15
Admission is open to students who have passed or who will appear for qualifying examinations under the Higher Secondary (10+2) or equivalents like AISSCE/ IB/ ISC during the academic year 2014-15. Successful candidates shall be given admission to the academic programme, by the institute, subject to their passing the qualifying examinations. The medium of instruction at NID is English.
Upper age limit for candidates is 20 years (relaxable by 3 years for reserved categories) as on June 1, 2015.
For General Category: The candidates born before 1st June, 1995 are not eligible.
For Reserved Categories: The candidates born before 1st June, 1992 are not eligible.

Akarsh, automobile design is a technical area if you're entering from an engineering perspective. However, from a design perspective you can enter automobile/ product design as well. To do that, you must be good in sketching - so join a good life art course like MethodArt. Also, you may pickup 3D software knowledge so that you can model the same in 3D as well with the right lighting and textures.
studying abroad in design is also great but you would need to understand their structure and how it works. if you're still searching you can look at studying for a job oriented diploma at a leading school in canada. If you want advice on that I can guide you and put you across to the best schools. Some of the students I have guided are studying at Sheridan, VFS, Emily Carr, Bournemoth and others. You can call me and discuss if you like since I am also an advisor and portfolio guide for some of them. However, these schools look for a good portfolio in drawing/ animation the most, and some areas can make do with a digital portfolio if good. You would need someone to take you through this since if the portfolio is rejected you would spend another year remaking it. It takes around a year to get a good portfolio in place unless you are very talented. Wish you the best for your career. You may take arts with maths.
*Prepare for college auto design programs with high school classes in both arts and sciences.
*Take courses in drawing and drafting, ideally supplemented by classes in computer design.
*Prepare paper and digital portfolios of your work to showcase your design skills to prospective colleges.
*In terms of high school subjects, art and design qualifications are therefore an absolute must, so too is being able to work fluently with numbers, in order to cope with basic calculations for engineering topics, such as 3D volumes, aerodynamics or model scales. Therefore, good grades in maths or physics are the next key priority.
*Most Transportation Design courses will require you to demonstrate your creative and artistic talent before short-listing you for an interview or offering a place, so good 2D drawing skills remain the prerequisite requirement.
