Tourism and Hospitality Management is a 3-year undergraduate course, involving an advanced study of the aviation, tourism, and hospitality management industry. The basic eligibility criterion for pursuing the course is a 10+2 or equivalent qualification in any stream, from a recognised educational Board, with a minimum aggregate score of 50%. Admission to the course is based on the candidates' performance in a relevant entrance exam or merit obtained in the last qualifying exam. The average tuition fee charged for the course in India ranges between INR 10,000 to 3 Lacs for a span of 3 years. Successful graduates of the course can expect anything between INR 3 to 20 lacs as an annual salary in the industry, increasing with experience and skill set. We see only one side of the job that is performed by the cabin crew. However, the major job of these crew members is to keep aircraft and passengers always in safe mode. Even during emergencies. It needs to be noted that safety systems onboard different types of aircraft are different. These differences are not drastic but they exist all the same. During emergencies, the crew is expected to know and operate safety-related equipment without fail since there would be no second chance. Maybe perhaps due to this, the cabin crew is allowed to be current only on two types of aircraft at any given time. This requires additional training that is imparted by the airlines concerned. General training, in any case, is given by the institution conducting the cabin crew course.

Earlier airlines required candidates with Diploma but nowadays most of the airlines have their own Training facilities and therefore they conduct walk-in interviews for freshers. Requirements for applying as cabin crew
The candidate must be 12th pass. The age should be between 21 to 25 years for freshers in most of the airlines. However, 18 years is also minimum age in some Indian careers. The candidate must be fluent in English and should have good interpretation skills. A Diploma in flight attendant / cabin crew is preferred. However, most of the airlines have their own Training programme for freshers. Hotel Management Graduates are also preferred over others. But don't worry if you aren't a hotel Management Graduate. Most of the airlines require pleasing personality, clear complexion (scars, pimples and blemishes not acceptable) and good eyesight. Candidate must possess a passport.

There is no discrimination in salary packages based on gender. The salary differs only on the basis of seniority and fleet in India. On the other hand, when we look at the remuneration paid by foreign airliners are based on their reputation in the market and obviously on which country do they come from. Indian carriers are way back in pay scales when you compare it with foreign airliners. Pay for cabin crew also depends on the section of aircraft that they look after. Those working for First Class and Business Class differ from those who operate in Economy class. British Carriers and American Carriers pay differently when you compare it with those who operate from Dubai or Saudi.

The salary & remuneration difference for Ground staff members and cabin crew members is because if their different work domains. The ground staff is generally underpaid as compared to cabin crew members. The reason being, cabin crew members have to be more attentive and job performer than ground staff members. Although it also depends upon which airlines you are cabin crew and on which airport you are a ground staff member. Some airlines paid more, some less. In India, the starting average salary for ground staff's members is around 30,000/-35,000/- whereas for cabin crew, it is 40,000/- to 50,000/-. If you increase your in-flight working hours, you may see a huge increment in your salary package. You just need to be consistent and enhance your performance. Your salary/remuneration will shoot up automatically.
