For becoming an IPS officer you need to clear the IPS exam which is held by Union public service commission (UPSC) every year. It is a very competitive exam with more than 100000+ candidates taking the exam out of which under 200 are finally selected.
This exam completes in 3 steps:First step is prelims exam , it is objective (popularly known as CSAT).
Second step is mains exam , it is subjective (Also known as Mains).
Third step is personal interview.

You also have other ways of starting a career in this, as you can also start to teach students by opening your own classes. this will also allow you flexibility in timings and would be like a part time job
