The beauty of the distance education programmes is that they are pan India. Anybody can apply for it. Only restrictions are the centres for exams. These may not be across India. With this restriction, you can do the course.

Pursue a course as per your hobby and the field you are interested in. You will feel good.

I think in India TV channels, newspapers, radio stations are increasing day by day but growth of govt owned institutions is quite less. As a consequence, govt jobs in the field of journalism are very minimal.

Economics is a very unique subject. Even though it's a part of bouquet in humanities, sound mathematics helps a lot. Hence many students are desirous of taking maths as subject along with economics. It's better this way. But in job market it makes no difference.

You can be a economist and also can be a financial consultant for major firms. By mathematics you can go for teaching to several other professions.
