That depends, if there is a tie-up with your college and the institute you are seeking admission with and if lateral admissions in 2nd year are allowed. Please check with the admissions department of your institute.

The eligibility of the Bachelor of Science [B.Sc] (Economics):
In order to get admission candidates need to fulfill the following eligibility conditions:
1) 10+2 or equivalent examination in science stream with at least 50% marks in aggregate from a recognized university or board.
2) In some colleges or institutes candidates will be preferred who have opted mathematics at 10+2 level.
Selection will be done on the basis of cut off merit list prepared by the colleges but in some colleges there can be entrance examination also depending upon the policies of the institution or college.

You may be able to apply for a supervisor position directly after your Masters or M.Phil /PhD, however if you plan to pursue the position right after your UG course you may be required to intern first or take up a position as assistant supervisor before you are promoted to supervisor level.
A Bachelor's degree in social work, public administration, management, or related field, may substitute for one year of the required eligibility experience. Supervisory course work and/or training may substitute for the some of the lead/supervisory experience.

B.Sc colleges available for you are:
Loyola College, Chennai
Christ University, Bangalore
St. Xavier's college, Mumbai
I would prefer you to take the lateral admission in engineering as you have good grip over mechanics and can join by omitting one year.
