BDS stands for Bachelor of Dental Surgery, while BAMS stands for Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery. Both are undergraduate medical degrees but have different focuses and practices. BDS mainly focuses on dental care and oral health. On the other hand, BAMS focuses on Ayurvedic medicine, which is an ancient Indian system of medicine.

You can surely use 'Dr.' if you have a BDS degree and are registered with Dental Council of India (DCI). Doctor title is used to acknowledge those who have completed a doctoral course in dentistry.

But you should keep one thing in mind that its use may differ on basis of specific country or region.

One of most desired and recognised degrees for dentists (doctors) is BDS. sole academic and professional dental surgery programme in India is BDS (Bachelor of Dental Surgery). It shares "Dr" domain with MBBS and is equal.

As suggested by the name, the BDS in General Surgery exposes and instructs students in the Science of Dentistry. After completing the professional programme for BDS. In general surgery, students must register with the Dental Council of India in order to practise their profession.

Students who want to enrol in the BDS programme in general surgery must meet the requirements. Candidates for this programme must have earned a Class 12 degree or an equivalent qualification from a recognised board. The three required subjects for Class 12 are Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.

Yes a BDS graduate is a doctor but they are a specialist doctor specifically for the mouth, teeth and jaw. But they are different from those doctors who precribe medicines for general illness.
Doctors study human anatomy and medicine for 5 years (including an internship) and they have the license to treat patients, perform surgeries and also prescribe medication.
But Dentists specializes in teeth and oral health.

BDS salary in India can be different according to many factors like experience, location, company and also job position.  

Candidates can see a general outline of the BDS graduates in India below -

  • Entry Level: INR 2 - 5 LPA
  • Mid Level: INR 5 - 8 LPA
  • Senior Level: INR 8 - 20 LPA

Yes after completing BDS you can go for a Hospital Management course and it can be good for your career. 

Hospital management courses can offer important skills and knowledge in managing healthcare facilities not just limited to hospitals but also clinics, healthcare organizations or even dental practices.

The NEET 2026 counselling dates are yet to be released by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC).
