I would recommend the following ways to get the initial hold of GK:
Newspaper is a must- Start reading newspapers daily. In the beginning, you might struggle in reading and assimilating the content, but with time, you'll become better. I won't suggest any specific newspaper but try to avoid TOI and HT.
Get a basic GK compendium- Buy a small size GK compendium (Arihant or any other publisher) to revisit basic static GK which one should be knowing about.
Online Quizzes- There are many websites ( Indiabix, etc.) which one can refer to for quizzes after having completed a specific category like International Institutions and Headquarters, C

All the interested students from any background and any discipline can apply to the programme. 50% marks are needed in class 10 and class 12 and college takes an entrance exam. It all depends on your interest. By "better" if you mean package offered in placements, then it's not the right way to plan for a career. Instead try to figure out your interest area, research more about each of them and see if they are relevant to your current field. Hope that helps.

The admission is done on a merit screening basis. With the marks and application, we cannot decide whether admission will happen. You need to wait for the cutoff to get an idea. Above 75% in 12th should be good. Some extracurricular activities to show from school days will help too. All the best.
