Supply chain managers are required in all industries. Their functions involve planning, coordination among internal departments (design, operations, procurement, production in case of manufacturing firms, and storage in warehouse points), transportation, execution, handover, customer service and many more.
They may also have cross functional roles where they need to coordinate with other supply chain managers from a different account or a different company to ensure uninterrupted services.
Their successful performance of duty can play a primary role in the development of the company. They can help the marketing department to do better branding, help the sales department to boost sales and hence maximize profits for the company.
What is the career path to becoming a Supply Chain Executive/Manager?
Supply chain management courses are mostly found as management courses in India offered by both medium ranked and cream of MBA (Master of Business Administration) schools, awarding students with the highly coveted MBA degree. It is most advisable to invest in the reputed MBA schools to get offered good salary packages by well known companies that visit the campuses. To crack the MBA exam one has to sit for CAT, MAT and other institution specific competitive exams followed by group discussion and personal interview.
To study supply chain management one can belong from any background. Supply chain managers can work in diverse industries and as a result of which they are imbibed from diverse backgrounds to excel and fit into variety of roles. But it is pertinent to be strong in English and Math, logical reasoning and communication to do great analysis and effective communication.

If you are a BSc student in biotechnology or any other biological sciences related fields, it is highly recommended that you pursue your MSc. The job opportunities for BSc graduates in a highly research oriented field as biotechnology is very less and most students tend to pursue their MSc in Biotechnology or a specialized discipline of biotechnology. India is home to some excellent MSc programs such as JNU, DU, IISc, TIFR, IITs etc. With an MSc degree, most students tend to work in research labs and industries as research assistants. The pay package is also quite less for MSc graduates. Since India is still developing, it is highly recommended that you do your MSc in a reputed institution for good campus placements and job opportunities. If your university is not reputed, chances of any biotech company coming for placements will be zero.
