CAT- A national level test accepted by all the business schools across india. most importantly by IIM's
TANCENT- The Anna University will conduct Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test (TANCET, generally accepted by most of the colleges in state of Tamil Nadu.

getting a good percentile is an entry into the the process of admission . once your scores are out , you will be called for interview and group discussion . This plays a major role in the admissions. You need to be updated with the current affairs and be confident in speaking .

As GATE is designed purely for engineering students, by getting good rank in it you can get PSU jobs or admission in premium technical institutes like IITs. However, CAT is designed for management although engineering students have very good record to secure top ranks in CAT. If you want to be in engineering field, then go for GATE, if you want to get into management, then go for CAT.
