There is nothing such thing called tougher to crack or easy to crack. This view depends upon the preparation of the exam you are giving. There are a number of exams conducted in India for the MBA type courses. Exams like CAT, XAT, GMAT, MAT, IBSAT, NMAT, SNAP, etc. have some minor tweaking and variations apart from the main sections. Each of these exams has a quantitative aptitude, verbal reasoning, logical reasoning and data interpretation, apart from GK or essay writing section in some of the exams. So, you have to prepare accordingly for these exams either by taking coaching classes or correspondence course or by self-preparation or

Hi Nikita,
For CAT, you have to work very hard and if you clear CAT then you should go for IIM, but that requires high percentage and any MBA entrance exam of any B level institute, you should take their MBA entrance like MAT. You can apply for LPU, Amity, Manipal, etc., the choice is yours.

The best things to do is refer to question papers from the previous years and get yourself to start thinking in that direction. Time yourself and get in the habit of finishing all the questions in the given time. You can refer to books by Arihant or honestly, any publication. With CAT, you need to focus more on your drawing skills. An innovative idea is important but your drawing skills will help you communicate that idea to the examiner. Good drawing skills make a world of examination. For GAT, you need to basic class 10th knowledge for logic, English and maths. For GK, you need to go through the news every single day.

With back-to-back coaching classes and hours and hours of revisions, self-study and attempting mock tests, aspirants are leaving no stone unturned to score maximum marks.

As per my experience I don't think that an year gap affects for CAT preparation adversely affects your chances of getting admission in any institute in IIMs or any other institute of India. The entire interview process is meant to gauge the students on their knowledge, skills and attitudes as well as their inclination of doing a MBA program.
If you are dropping out of your current job for one year there should be a justification as to what were the reason for opting out of your job. There are various examples of students who have scored a hundred percentile while working and thus the interviewers always discuss the reasons for dropping
