Normally speaking centrally funded technical institutes base their admissions on ranking obtained in JEE Mains examination. The majority of the states across India conduct some or the other entrance test to give admission to their respective engineering colleges, the exception being Tamil Nadu. This is the case also for many or almost all deemed to be cities across India. Hence you will realize that your desire to become a biotechnologist can be fulfilled only and only if you appear for one of the entrance examinations. According to my opinion, as you have already made up your mind to go for the engineering programme I would suggest you join for Diploma programme and after that, you can go for a lateral entry programme which will be appropriate for you.
