Though, you may still be able to do lab work only during your final year distance M.Sc. However a masters by distance Science subject is not at all pleasing in the eyes of PhD admission committed. If the PhD topic is completely new, then you have to really sit for a Master's degree.

You have to specify the college that you are aiming for. There are many colleges in the university. If you are aiming for Stephen's the top most them you need really high percentage. You may get in some other colleges with less marks as well.

Pursue any of this according to your interest. For getting government jobs, you need to clear exams like UPSC which has an optional paper. If you plan to choose PCM, as one of your optional paper go ahead with that subject. Anyway, choosing the subject in which you are most comfortable will elevate your preparation for other exams as you will have to give less time to the subject. Usually, Mathematics is chosen by many people if they are interested in clearing some government exams.
