There is not one single book. You read several and prepare notes. You have to master whatever you have read. You have to start your preparation early and do it steadily. Start with some general book. Then, motivate yourself. Reading goes on, without an end.

To become a civil servant, you should crack UPSC exam.
For that you should be a degree holder.
If you want to become a civil servant then start preparing from now itself as the examination is very competitive. Only around 1200 to 1500 people get selected every year.
All the best !!

BA degree is not as rigorous as Science / Engineering / Commerce / Medical degrees. BA students are able to prepare for Civil Services during their BA studies itself. . Therefore, it helps such students to clear Civil Services exam with relative ease.

Generally DC are from IAS cadre. You can become direct IAS by appearing for Civil Services Exam conducted by UPSC. Every state conducts it's own Provisional Civil services examination conducted by state Public Service Commission . well completely speaking first ask yourself what is easy for you if you have strong basw in science then go for arts but if not then go for science because an arts student can get confused sometime on science topics so accordingly go and take your decision and one more thing commerce is in no way going to help you in becoming ias so choose b/w arts or science on taking account of all factors. Hope you will become successful in your life and will be able to achieve your dream. Good luck
