At undergraduate level in Maths (Hons), one studies mostly theoretical subjects with main emphasis on core subjects. Also, one gets to programme computer based mathematical models on software such as MATLAB - MathWorks, Wolfram Mathematics etc. Further the following subjects are taught;
Real Analysis
Algebra
Differential Equation
Calculus
Linear Programming
Probability and Statistics
Numerical Methods (programming)
Analysis and Algebra are purely theoretical subjects and are based on logic. Others are simple. Programming is very simple and fun. Before I forget to mention, you will most probably be taught one Credit course every semester. Delhi University has introduced CBCS pattern at undergraduate level from this year. In this pattern, student has to earn credit points to pass the semester.

You should undoubtedly go for the government job.
To elaborate my view, let's have a detailed analysis of private and government jobs-
1. Firsly, Government jobs are more secure as compared to private jobs. Since, when appointed by government you retire at an age of 58-65 depending upon the nature of work. Whereas, in case of private job, there is no job security. The ones hiring you are great in business. They will only pay you as long as you prove to be of some benefit to them. Eg- Let's say if a private company hires you for 70k, they will pay you 70k only when they feel the work done by you is benefitting them and is worth much more than 70k. The scenario is not the same with govt. Jobs your salary and job security doesn't depend upon your performance
2. Work load - The work load on private employees is much more as compared to government employees. Private employees often have to work day and night with no fixed office timings in order to achieve their targets. Whereas, there are fixed working hours for government employees and they aren't burdened by targets
3. Holidays - Who doesn't enjoy holidays :) The one thing at which the government offices rule is giving holidays for almost every festival and occasion to its employees. Some private firms even make their employees work on festivals like dussehra. Which is obviously damn annoying
4. Growth aspects - The government job offers huge growth aspects to employees. Some sectors like insurance and banking have a provision whereby an employee becomes eligible for promotion after a certain period of time (say 3 years) whereas, in private sector, a person may have to serve his entire life on the same designation (depending on nature of job)
5. Perks, allowances and Facilities - Government jobs provide various allowances to an employee such as transportation allowance, house rent allowance etc. They also provide government accommodation to their employees in need. They even get a travelling allowance known as LTC to the employee to enjoy his vacations within the country along with his family after a period of every 4 years
Conclusion - If you want to lead a peaceful life ahead, undoubtedly go for government job. And if you have concern for money, you need not worry, the recurring pay commissions would compensate it for you. Choose Wisely.
