Placements are average (Almost 100%) for mechanical or any other core branch. IIT Delhi has advantage of being in the capital. Overall IIT Kanpur will always score above IIT Delhi from academic research point of view. IIT Kanpur is ranked 3/35 by India Today Engineering and IIT Delhi is ranked 1/35 by India Today Engineering .

IIT Kanpur accepts GATE scores for admission to the M.Tech course. As per the GATE COAP round 1 cutoff, the most competitive course was Microelectronics and VLSI with a closing rank of 935 for the General AII India category students. So, to secure a seat in IIT Kanpur, candidates must secure more than 900 for General AI category.
