Government Medical College, Kozhikode, also known as Calicut Medical College, is considered a premier medical college in India. It is the most preferred medical college in Kerala during both All India and state counsellings for MBBS admission. The college has a high faculty-student ratio, and about 95% of students have been placed in the same college for house surgery, which is a strong indicator of the college's quality. Additionally, the college is ranked 78 out of 100 colleges in India by the IIRF. Therefore, based on the reviews, placements, and rankings, Government Medical College, Kozhikode can be considered a good college.

Calicut University offers distance education to students through its School of Distance Education. Formerly known as the Institute of Correspondence Courses and Continuing Education, the School of Distance Education, Calicut University was established in 1981-82. The Calicut University SDE offers 25 courses to students. 

Calicut University is one of the best ranked universities present in India. It is ranked 179 by the QS Ranking under the Asian University Rankings - Southern Asia category 2025 and 601-620 by the QS Ranking under the Asian University Rankings category 2025.
