There are many job opportunities which are available to interior design professionals. Design professionals have a choice to work in a supervised setup (Design studios and Interior design firms) or work independently. The Government sector is also known to hire interior design professionals. Government sector jobs in PWDs, Municipal Corporations, and Town Planning Departments are available to interior design professionals and are known to recruit such professionals. If you are an average student then I will suggest you to go for BA honors in the specialization which interests you. It doesn't matter if you are an average student or a topper. You don't have to run in the race of engineering because these days industry is full of engineers and on an average they are being paid around 2.5 LPA on an average.
