After class 10th by doing Polytechnic you will get Diploma Engineering after three years. This will enable you to get a job and start earning. But your routes of doing other graduation except engineering will be difficult. On the other hand, post doing HSC, your paths of doing graduation in any subject remain open. You can, in fact, do graduation in engineering also. But it takes much longer to begin earning. So, depending on your financial constraints and goals, you should select an option.
