Hello Priti Singh, it's very nice to hear from you that you are interested in doing your Ph.D. These days almost every university conducts an entrance test for candidates who wish to register for Ph.D. It's called by different names in different universities. Once you are clear, you need to search for the authorized guides of the university. Then one needs to talk and discuss with the guide the probable subject of research and then register with the university. Now your journey begins. That's all. Best wishes to you.

You do not want to get into a job after your degree? No problem. You can have quite a few good options to go for a higher study after a degree in MA English Literature or a masters in English literature. You can opt to do a Ph.D. in any of the following subjects. There are many other options too.
1.Ph.D. in Linguistics
2.Ph.D. in Comparative Literature
3.Ph.D. in Classical English Literature or Ph.D. in Classics
4.Ph.D. in English Language
5.Ph.D. in Teaching of English as a Foreign Language
