The following documents are required for attending GATE counselling or for registration-
- Provisional seat allotment letter.
 - Self-Attested Copy of GATE Score Card (2025 or 2023 or 2024)
 - Photo ID proof.
 - The original birth certificate was issued by the competent authority, and the Class X (High School) Board Certificate was used as proof of date of birth.
 - Class 12 marks sheet.
 - Marks sheet of qualifying examination (all semesters).
 - Degree/Provisional Certificate
 - Category certificate (if applicable).
 - Three Passport size coloured photograph
 - Seat acceptance fee proof.
 - Printout of the Registration form & locked choices.
 - Migration Certificate
 - Transfer Certi

- Each PSU (like IOCL, ONGC, NTPC, BHEL) releases separate job notifications mentioning the required GATE paper and cutoff criteria and valid GATE scorecard details.
 - Appear for the relevant GATE paper based on your field (e.g., ME, CE, EE, CH). A higher GATE score (650+) increases selection chances.
 - After the GATE results, visit PSU's official websites and apply for vacancies by entering your GATE registration number.
 - PSUs shortlist candidates based on GATE scores. Some conduct group discussions (GD) and personal interviews (PI). Some PSUs also conduct medical examination.

Scoring 850 in GATE is exceptional as it creates a pathway for admissions to TOP IITs and NITs. It is also considered a great score for PSU recruitment through GATE. To apply for PSUs, aspirants must be aware of the application process and date for different PSUs. The statistics report for GATE 2025 has not been released yet. It will be available with the GATE results and the toppers list on GATE's official website - gate2025.iitr.ac.in. Candidates can also check the GATE 2025 appeared and qualified applicant details here, once updated. The GATE 2026 result will be announced on the official website. The GATE results 2026 dates will be updated along with the GATE 2026 dates. IIT Guwahati will release the GATE result and rank card in March 2026 (expected). Candidates can access their results using their GATE enrollment ID, registered email ID and password.

Various foreign universities accept GATE scores. Universities might also have additional eligibility criteria that might be required to be fulfilled as well in order to get admission. Apart from securing admission to Master in Engineering (M.E.) and Master in Technology (M. Tech) programs in prestigious colleges across the country, the GATE score is utilized by most foreign universities to offer PG admission. Some of the foreign universities that accept the GATE scores are the National University of Singapore (NUS), Nanyang Technological University (NTU) Singapore, Technical University of Germany and RWTH Aachen, Germany.

Candidates are given free choice to choose the GATE papers, however candidates should choose the papers which align with the qualifying degree. E.g; If a candidate have done B.Tech. in Civil Engineering he/she should choose CE GATE paper. Candidates are advised to check the GATE two-paper combination options while opting for second paper choice.
