GATE 2026 Counselling: Respective IIT and NIT started their counselling process. Candidates who have qualified Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) are eligible to participate in the counselling. Students must note that IIT Guwahati does not conduct counselling. The GATE counselling 2026 is done by two different portals: CCMT for NITs and IIITs admission and COAP for IITs and IISc admission.
IIT Guwahati announced GATE results along with toppers list and branch-wise qualifying cutoff marks at gate2026.iitg.ac.in. Candidates who have secured equal to or above GATE 2026 cutoff can participate in counselling.
This year, IIT Roorkee is conducting COAP 2026 counselling and NIT Agartala is conducting CCMT counselling. The counselling is done in several rounds, and comprises registration, choice filling & locking, followed by seat allotment and reporting. What is GATE 2026 Counselling?
GATE counselling 2026 is conducted separately. IIT Guwahati is not responsible for conducting counselling. Only GATE-qualifed candidates will be eligible to participate in admission counselling. The portals: COAP and CCMT are authorities to announce counselling schedule and registration process. The counselling process will be held in different rounds, based on GATE cutoff scores, branch, seat availability, etc.
- COAP, also known as Common Offer Acceptance Portal is used for admission to IITs.
- CCMT, also known as Centralised Counselling for MTech/MArch/MPlan is used to offer admission to NITs, IIITs, and other GFTIs.

The GATE counselling process starts after the announcement of results. The GATE counselling is conducted by COAP and CCMT. The COAP (Common Offer Acceptance Portal) is the counselling portal that offers admission to IITs.

GATE COAP 2026 Counselling Dates OUT
The GATE COAP registration 2026 dates have been announced. The official website is coap2026.iitr.ac.in. The COAP 2026 round 1 counselling will begin on May 11. Candidates have to register to generate a COAP ID to participate in the counselling. The COAP 2026 dates are now available. Candidates are advised to go through the website for frequent updates. Also, after the declaration of the result, many IITs like IIT Bombay and IISc Bangalore will release their cutoff, which can be helpful for students to strategise their college choices.
GATE CCMT 2026 Counselling Dates
The CCMT 2026 counselling dates have been released on its official website. It is conducted in three phases, followed by two special rounds (depending on the seat availability). The CCMT dates comprise the registration, choice filling and locking, seat allotment, and reporting.

While reporting to allotted college, candidates must keep following documents ready for verification
- Provisional seat allotment letter
- GATE 2026 scorecard
- Valid photo ID proof
- Birth certificate
- All education marksheets (from class 12 to graduation)
- Category certificate (if applicable)

IIT MTech Admission through GATE 2026 COAP Counselling
COAP portal allows candidates to apply for IITs for MTech programmes. It conducts five main and five additional rounds of counselling for seat allotment.

NIT, IIIT, CFTI MTech Admission Through GATE 2026 CCMT Counselling
CCMT counselling offers MTech admission to NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs. To participate, candidates need to meet criteria for CCMT GATE counselling 2026.
Eligibility to participate in CCMT
- Candidates must have a valid GATE score of 2024/2024/2023
- A minimum of 6.5 CGPA or 60% marks for general and OBC
- For SC/ST/PwD category candidates, minimum qualifying mark is 6.0 CGPA or 55% marks.

Candidates have to perform following during CCMT GATE counselling process -

No, students can not get direct admission in Cluster Innovation Centre MSc. The college only accepts CUET PG score. Hence, having a GATE scorecard will not come in handy during admissions.

If you are seeking admission in NIT Surathkal MTech, then GATE is mandatory. Students applying for non-MTech programmes do not need to appear for GATE. For M.Tech however, GATE followed by the centralised counselling is mandatory.

No, students can not get admission in IIT Roorkee MSc with GATE scores. The institute accepts IIT JAM score only. No other tests including GATE are accepted. Students also have to appear for the centralised counselling to get a seat.

IISc Bangalore GATE cutoff 2026 for the ECE course for the General AI category was 650 in round 1. For the OBC AI category, the round 1 cutoff for the same course was 600. This difference in the score says that the competiton for the General AI category was higher than the OBC AI quota.
