Yes, more or less the GMAT books are same for preparing for Focus edition with older versions. Applicants can just selectively choose the topics that are relevant for the current GMAT edition and can easily prepare for the exam. However, there are options to buy official guides or prep material from MBA.com website for GMAT Focus Edition.

In order to score well on the GMAT exam and meet the GMAT cut offs for various MBA colleges; you need to prepare for the exam consistently for 3-6 months from authentic GMAT prep resources and appear for GMAT mock tests on a regular basis. You must start with understanding the GMAT pattern and the GMAT syllabus. You can then start your preparation with the official GMAT study material. Make sure to appear for GMAT mock tests. You may also refer to Manhattan Guides, Kaplan study material, etc.

GMAT exam is conducted online and at a test centre. Applicants can take the GMAT exam in either of the modes. Those who choose to take GMAT online would be required to pay USD 300, whereas, those opting for GMAT exam centre testing will have to pay USD 275.

Those who wish to take GMAT online will have to have a laptop with good internet speed and connection. Those testing at the centre will have to take the test on the device provided at the test centre itself.

Applicants can register for the GMAT exam anywhere between six months and 24 hours before the desired GMAT exam date. Since it may be difficult to find a convenient time slot at the last minute. It is recommended, to register for GMAT exam at least two to three months prior to the planned test date.

This way, applicants will get the GMAT exam date of their choice along with the GMAT exam centre without much ado.

Applicants who wish to attempt GMAT once more, can go for it. However, applicants must remeber that GMAT if taken online or at a test center, cannot exceed attempts in a year. Plus, in a lifetime, only eight attempts are allowed per applicant. This is applicable across all versions and editions of the GMAT exam.

So if the applicants have taken three attempts on GMAT Xth edition can go for five more attempts on GMAT XIth edition (or the latest GMAT Focus Edition).  Get more details at GMAT Retake Strategy Steps
