Since the number of applicants is increasing by the year, you should book your preferred time slot and test centre 1-2 months in advance. When the season hits, that is, when most applications happen, in November every year, it is ideal to book the slot 3-6 months in advance. Waiting for the last moment to register or book your slot for GMAT is not a good idea. Another way of looking into it would be booking your slot at the time of your test preparation. Suppose, you are preparing for GMAT Exam, you will need some time to prepare for the exam. The ideal duration for preparation would be anywhere between 3-6 months, which may vary given

Anybody 18 years and above can appear for the GMAT exam. While there is no specific GMAT eligibility that needs to be taken care of while applying for the exam, we need to ensure that the applicant is 18 years old (if they are 13 to 17 years old, they will require an NOC from their parents). There is no such eligibility criterion followed by the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC). However, the respective institutes, applicants would want to join after appearing for GMAT, may have a set rule for selecting their candidates.

Ideally, applicants can register for the GMAT between 6 months and 24 hours before the planned date for taking the exam, irrespective of the mode. Since it is difficult to get an exam slot at the last hour, it is better to register for GMAT exam around 2-3 monhs before the exam date if registering for GMAT at test centre. Following this rule will help students avoiding the last minute registrations for GMAT.

Based on following parameters, know which is better - GMAT Online or at test centre:
| Parameters | GMAT Online | GMAT at Test Centre |
|---|---|---|
| Tested | Online on the applicant's laptop or computer from home. | Taken at the chosen test centre during GMAT registration. |
| Flexibility | Easy to give in the comfort of home and personal settings, that is, more informal. | More formal, as the applicants have to appear for the exam in a typical exam setting. |
| Good Internet Requirement | Applicants taking GMAT online must ensure they have a high-speed internet connection. | Test centre applicants do not have to worry about the high-speed internet connections, as it is already taken care of. |
| Cost | Higher cost of taking the GMAT exam. | Lower cost of taking the GMAT exam. |
Based on personal choices, choose whichever is better and register. GMAT at home is more expensive than the test centre testing.

What is common between the GMAT at the test centre and online is the:
- GMAT exam eligibility, syllabus, structure, preparation and registration are the same for both these modes of GMAT exams.
- The costs for rescheduling or cancelling the GMAT are also the same for both modes of the exam.
- GMAT scores, GMAT score reports and up to 5 free score reports are also the same.
- Plus, the unoffical GMAT scores also reflect on the screen temporarily for both test centre and online test takers of GMAT.
