The Civil Services Examination (IAS) is considered as one of the toughest and the most prestigious examinations conducted in India. The syllabus is widely extensive and you need to focus on all the subjects equally. The written exam consists of 2 sections; prelims and Mains. Prelim is an objective question exam containing questions related to general awareness and personal aptitude. The Mains examination consists of subjective questions and covers the following subjects:
1. Current events of national and international importance.
2. History of India and Indian National Movement.
3. Indian and World Geography-Physical, Social, Economic Geography of India and the World.
4. Indian Polity and Governance Constitution, Political System, Panchayati Raj, Public Policy, Rights Issues, etc.
5. Economic and Social Development Sustainable Development, Poverty, Inclusion, Demographics, Social Sector initiatives, etc.
6. General issues on Environmental Ecology, Bio-diversity and Climate Change that do not require subject specialisation.
7. General Science.

In order to become an income tax officer, you should get into Indian Revenue Service. To get into IRS, you need to clear your civil service examination which is conducted by UPSC. The eligibility criterion for the examination is graduation from a recognised University. The candidate must be of 21-30 years of age. The Civil Service Examination comprises of an aptitude test (CSAT), a main examination and personality test.The aptitude test comprises of sections like Comprehension, Interpersonal skills, Logical reasoning and analytical ability, Basic numeracy and data interpretation. The main exam has questions related to current affairs, History, Geography, Indian Politics, Economic and Social development, and General Science. The interview is conducted to assess a candidate's intelligence, abilities, traits and values.
